College-wide Research Theme

The College has adopted the "Corporate Sustainability, Social Responsibility and Innovations" as one of the College-wide research themes.  The College, as well as individual staff, have been actively involved in research or projects related to this theme.  Some of the College-wide projects/ activities are shown as follows:

HSMC International Sustainability Week

Research Institutes / Centres

The Centre aims to establish a platform for services, products, activities co-creation related to social responsibility, sustainability and innovations and to seek ways to engage stakeholders and the community.

Deep Learning Research & Application Centre (DLC)
The Centre, supported by the RGC Institutional Development Scheme, provides a Cloud Computing environment for deep learning, as well as being a hub for promoting and applying deep learning to projects of various domains.  Research projects with innovative applications and potential will be identified to make good use of the Centre's resources.  The deliverables include the training and promotion of deep learning systems in the College, as well as academic publications, conference talks and other forms of knowledge exchange (e.g. workshops, tutorials, seminars and conference).

Policy Research Institute of Global Supply Chain
The Institute, established and administered under the School of Decision Sciences, aims to undertake relevant, high-quality policy research in supply chain and logistics management, bringing direct benefits to the community and enhancing the well-beings of supply chain and logistics stakeholders in Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta.

HSMC has secured funding from the RGC Institutional Development Scheme for setting up a Research Institute for Business.  The Institute aims to provide support to and coordinate research efforts in business research so as to advance the understanding of business practices with a focus on local relevance.  The Institute also targets to enhance the College's research capability in business.  A Computerised Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) system will facilitate the College in carrying out opinion surveys and behavioural studies.

The VRC Centre, established and administered under the School of Decision Sciences, aims to enhance the development in teaching and research with the support of a fully immersive and interactive visualization system.  A Virtual Reality and Big Data Analytics Laboratory, supported by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme, is housed in the VRC.  A Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) system has been developed to provide vivid stereoscopic views of sceneries in 3D design to facilitate visualization on 3D illustration of industrial supply chain operations, geometrical theories, financial modelling, and healthcare logistics operations. The system provides a versatile and powerful interactive virtual reality platform for operators to train and practice in complex and critical operations before assigned to work in real life operations. With the support of CAVE system and simulation software in the centre, sophisticated big data in multi-dimension analysis will be carried out. The centre aims to focus on the interactive visualization and big data analytics research and development in the areas of supply chain and logistics, banking and finance, business analytics, healthcare logistics, and heritage as well as provide an excellent interactive 3D learning platform to the students, academic researchers, and industrial practitioners.

The Statistics Consultancy Unit is established under the Department of Mathematics and Statistics which aims to provide consulting services to staff on campus and outside organizations and to offer seminars and workshops related to statistics.
